Developmental stages

Developmental stages of a team (Bruce Tucker)

  1. Forming: get to know each other, share personal information, attention for group tasks
  2. Storming: compete for status, argue about directions. Tensions arise.
  3. Norming: moving together, tentative balance emerges, group norms evolve.
  4. Performing: team matures, handles complex challenges, roles are performed and exchanged if needed, tasks are efficiently accomplished.
  5. Adjourning: in case of short term groups, the break-up requires dissolving intense relations.
